The island of Oléron in Charente Maritime

The island of Oléron is located in the department of Charente Maritime in the Atlantic Ocean. Oléron is therefore part of the region New Aquitaine and is the second largest island of France. To the south of La Rochelle, Rochefort, L’Ile de Ré and facing the Pays d’Arvert with Marennes, La Palmyre and Royan, Oléron la Lumineuse is connected to the continent by a free bridge. It is 30 kms in length and 8 kms wide in its maximum and the main road takes you naturally through a nature preserved until Saint Denis d’Oléron at the end of the Island where you will put your suitcases in our campsite.

An island with a unique cultural and historical heritage

At 150 meters from the campsite, the beach of Les Huttes is your first appointment with swimming. Other beaches await you not far from the campsite: Les Sables Vignier, Domino, Chaucre, Boyardville, La-Brée-Les-Bains, etc.
Coté visit, in the town of Saint Denis where the Camping Barataud is located you are facing the majestic Phare de Chassiron and its museum. A few kilometers to La Brée-Les-Bains you discover the outside of the Moulin de la Fontaine. Still further south the commune of Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron awaits you with the castle of Bonnemie, the Kiosk, the Lantern and the museum of the Island of Oléron. At the foot of the island, at the Chateau d’Oléron, discover the famous citadel of Vauban, the Chemin des Remparts, the shipyard Robert Leglise, etc. Nor do we forget Fort Louvois between the continent and the island of Oléron and the famous Fort Boyard in Boyardville.
Water sports enthusiasts are not forgotten: sailing, jet skiing, kitesurfing, swimming, diving, surfing, paddle. Pleasure with its harbors and leisure, sports, viticulture, gastronomy with our famous oysters Marennes-Oléron are also part of the wealth that the island of Oléron invites you to share during your stay at Camping Barataud Oléron.
